Sonic Babylon's latest Sound Garden opens this Sunday, 13 September 2009, at the Noosa Regional Gallery in Tewantin. The event, scheduled from 14:00—16:30, will feature sound artist Leah Barclay performing on world percussion instruments and percussionist Steve Weis performing on metal sculpture. Both artists will play live with the sounds of the garden. Garden sounds will include excerpts from Leah Barclay's Eco Sonus project, a site specific sound installation commissioned for the 2009 Floating Land festival, an ongoing conversation about climate change, creativity, and the environment that took place over ten days in June in Boreen Point, Lake Cootharaba in the UNESCO-listed biosphere of Noosa. Visitors to the garden may either drift through the virtual soundscapes, or bring Wi-Fi enabled mobile devices and participate in the pruning and planting of sounds. The opening of the sound garden is part of a daylong series of events at the gallery that include a Flora exhibition and family day activities, so if you're in Noosa please plan to join us.
